#Rewind2020: These 90s shows gained immense popularity during the lockdown

Lockdown due to Covid-19 might have come as a dampener in 2020, but what brought joy to television viewers was the return of some of the most popular shows of the 90s. They were immensely enjoyed by everyone, especially the youth. Here's a look at the list of shows that helped bring entertainment and joy to the viewers.

Ramayan

Re-run of Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan broke all records after it aired on television during the lockdown. It was highly enjoyed by families including the younger generation. The show took over Twitter by storm and often trended for its cast and story. Even its actors Dipika Chikhlia (Sita), Arun Govil (Ram) and Sunil Lahri (Lakshman) became audience's favourites on social media. It even broke the world record for being the most viewed show on television.

Mahabharat

Another show from the 90s that grabbed eyeballs was B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat. The show, which starred Nitish Bharadwaj, Mukesh Khanna, Gajendra Chauhan in the lead roles, became the most talked about during the lockdown and kept the viewers engaged. Its TRP reflected how much the audience enjoyed watching it.

Byomkesh Bakshi

The return of Rajit Kapur-starrer 'Byomeksh Bakshi' also brought much joy to the audience. The show served as an escape and kept the viewers glued to the gripping twists in the television series.

Dekh Bhai Dekh

While there was a repeat telecast of some new shows, the re-run of Dekh Bhai Dekh made viewers happy. This slice-of-life show covered up for those who missed shows like Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah during the lockdown. The everyday struggles of the Diwan family with its various confusions kept the viewers hooked and entertained.

Mukesh Khanna's superhero television show Shaktimaan was brought back during the lockdown. The fantasy show added to the list of different genres and was enjoyed by the audience.

The soap opera which dealt with the partition of 1947 and its aftermath also returned on television. It starred Alok Nath and Anita Kanwar in lead roles. Alia Bhatt's mother Soni Razdan, also part of the show, was thrilled to have newer audiences enjoy the soap.
