Popular saas-bahu saga ‘Hum Paanch’ is one of the most popular sitcoms from the 90s. The show reminds the audience of the time when the entire family used to sit together and enjoy TV shows. The Indian audience was in love with the entire Mathur family and the audience could relate to each character in the show. Even after more than two decades, Hum Paanch remains the most loved show of all time. Let’s walk down memory lane and take a look at the star cast, what they are doing now and more.

About the show

All the ’90s kids are familiar with the Mathur family from the sitcom, Hum Paanch. It focused on Anand Mathur and his five daughters, Meenakshi, Radhika, Sweety, Kajal, and Chhoti was a rage among the audience. Today, even after more than 20 years since its premiere, it still remains one of the gems of Indian Television.

The star cast

While Ashok Saraf played Anand Mathur, Shoma Anand portrayed a completely different version of a stepmother Bina Mathur. Vandana Pathak essayed the role of Meenakshi. Amita Nangia, Vidya Balan, Rakhee Tandon, and Priyanka Mehra are also some of the popular faces of the show.

Post the show, Ashok tried his hand at several other projects and won many hearts. He has actively been involved in the Marathi film industry. Ashok Saraf also played a role in Ajay Devgn starrer Singham. Hum Paanch remains one of his most popular works.

Shoma Anand played an over-dramatic housewife in the TV show. Just like other characters of the show, she too became very popular in other shows on Indian television. After Hum Paanch, Shoma played many roles in Indian TV shows. She also tried her hands at drama and negative roles.

Amita Nangia and Vidya Balan as Radhika

Amita played the role of Radhika and was later replaced by Vidya Balan. Amita later bagged many Bollywood films too, like Ajnabee, Deewanapan, Khatta Meetha etc. Vidya Balan also appeared in several hit Bollywood movies post-the-show.

Vandana Pathak, Bhairavi Rai Chura and others

After Hum Paanch, Vandana was bombarded with offers from the Gujarati film industry and the Hindi television industry. Rakhee was seen in several films like - Humko Ishq Ne Mara, Golmaal Returns etc. After Hum Paanch, Bhairavi was also seen in shows like - Astitva: Ek Prem Kahani and Sasural Genda Phool.
