Reports of Kapil’s rift with Akshay Kumar to allegations of refusing to promote film without ‘commercial starcast’; times when The Kapil Sharma Show hit headlines for wrong reasons

Time and again The Kapil Sharma Show and host Kapil Sharma have courted controversies. Celebrity appearances, rifts between the cast, disputable remarks in and outside the show, a lot has led to the show making headlines for the wrong reasons. Currently, it’s filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s claims against the show that has sparked talks. Here’s a look at times when Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show stirred headlines:

Director Vivek Agnihotri is prepping up for the release of his film based on Kashmiri Hindus and is busy with its promotions. During his promotional spree, the filmmaker was asked by fans to promote the upcoming film on The Kapil Sharma Show. In response to this, Vivek first claimed that the makers and Kapil have refused to promote his film because it doesn’t have a ‘commercial star’ in its cast. Later, in another tweet, the filmmaker said that he is nobody to decide if he gets to promote his film on the show. He wrote, “I don’t get to decide who should be invited on @KapilSharmaK9 show. It’s his and his producer’s choice whom he wants to invite. As far as Bollywood is concerned, I’d say what once Mr. Bachchan was quoted saying about Gandhis: Vo raja hai hum rank.” This didn’t go down well with netizens, who demanded to boycott Kapil and his show, ultimately making him and TKSS trend on Twitter.

Earlier in February this year, reports of a rift between Kapil and Akshay Kumar did rounds on the internet. They suggested that the Bollywood actor was upset because of a leaked video from his previous appearance on the show. Apparently, Akshay was upset after a video wherein Kapil indirectly talked about his interview with PM Modi got leaked on social media despite his request to not air it. According to reports, the actor had refused to appear on the show until he got clarification about the same. After this news broke out, Kapil took to his Twitter handle and clarified everything for his fans. He wrote, “Dear friends,was reading all the news in media about me n Akshay paji, I have jus spoke to paji n sorted all this, it was jus a miss communication, all is well n very soon we r meeting to shoot Bachhan pandey episode. He is my big bro n can never be annoyed with me thank you.”

The differences between Krushna Abhishek and mama Govinda have not been hidden from the public. The bitterness between them and their families have always stirred headlines. Earlier, Krushna’s refusal to be a part of the episode that featured Govinda as the guest was much talked about. During the same time, Krushna told an online portal that his denial came as a part of concern for the show. The actor stated that he didn’t want the show to get affected because of his differences with Govinda. A lot has been in news about the feud between the two, however, recently Krushna Abhishek indirectly kept his want to end the fight with his mama. Several recent episodes of the show saw him mention about Govinda and his fight and indicating that he wants the matter to be resolved.

Sunil Grover exiting The Kapil Sharma Show is still one of the most controversial moments the telly world has seen. It was when the team of The Kapil Sharma Show was returning from their Australia tour that Kapil and Sunil Grover, who was a part of the show then got into an ugly spat. Reports suggested that the former verbally and physically assaulted the latter which ultimately led to his exit from the show. Sunil quit the show to never return after the news about their nasty fight broke out. Kapil and Sunil, who were not on talking terms for long after this have become cordial now. They are often seen sending their warm wishes to each other on occasions. Moreover, recently Kapil Sharma also showed his concern for Sunil, post his bypass surgery.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has had a long journey with Kapil Sharma as a comedian had to leave the show after he made a remark about the Pulwama attack, which led to him facing a massive backlash. It was this incident that led to his exit from The Kapil Sharma Show after makers decided to replace him. Archana Puran Singh was then roped in to play the part of a permanent guest on the show.

It was during an episode in March 2020 that Kapil cracked a joke and took the name of a Kayasth deity, which offended the members of the community. The members of the community demanded an apology and called for boycotting the show. Following this, Kapil had to issue a public apology too.

The Kapil Sharma Show once hosted the whole cast of Mahabharat. However, one person who was missed there was Mukesh Khanna, who played Bhishma Pitamah in the epic. This made people question the reason behind his absence. To answer it for everyone, Mukesh Khanna released a statement on social media. He called The Kapil Sharma Show ‘worse’ and ‘cheap’ and cited that it uses vulgarity to make people laugh.

It was in when Kiku Sharda copied a journalist extensively covering Sushant Singh Rajput’s death for a segment in the show. Krushna and Kapil also became a part of the segment that was aired in 2020.
