Talking about her memories related to Ram Navami, Sonya said, "I was in

New Zealand

, and Ram Navami was the day when I moved to India. It wasn't intentional. I didn’t even know it was Ram Navami. It was only after I moved that I got to know it was Ram Navami. It was a divine coincidence. Ram Navami will always hold a special place in my heart as it changed my whole life."

Further, she added, "Now when I look back and think, I realise it was God's plan. Back then it felt like the saddest day of my life, but it was a blessing in disguise. Ram Navmi will always be special to me. I am so thankful to god that he guided me in the right direction. I never planned on acting nor did I imagine myself pursuing acting as a career, but now I know it was God's plan."

Before moving to India, Sonya talked about her relationship troubles which led her to quit her corporate job. Sonya then moved to India and the rest is history. She is currently seen on the television show,
