Payal Rohatgi lands in trouble due to Nehru post; housed with jail mates charged with loot and murder crimes

Former Bigg Boss contestant Payal Rohatgi has been sent to nine days of judicial custody after a Bundi court rejected her bail application in a case relating to her post on social media, which is allegedly defamatory of the Nehru-Gandhi family. She is housed with women inmates accused of murder, loot and other crimes. (Photo: Instagram)

Lodged in general female ward

“With a dismal, disappointing look on her face, Rohatgi reached the jail with a police escort and was lodged in general female ward of the jail at 12.40 pm on Monday with five other female inmates. These inmates are accused of murder, loot and drug smuggling,” deputy superintendent of Bundi Central Jail Lokojjawal Singh told TOI. (Photo: Instagram)

What's permissible for her

Being an undertrial in judicial custody, the actor was allowed to wear her own clothes, dresses which she had brought with her to the jail. The actress in the jail ward will be allowed to watch approved channels on television and will also be given newspapers to read. (Photo: Instagram)

Deputy superintendent of Bundi Central Jail Lokojjawal Singh added, “She has not made any special demand for food. She will be served the same food which is given to other inmates.” (Photo: Instagram)

Her arrest

The actor was formally arrested late on Sunday night in Bundi after the Rajasthan police picked her up from her residence in Ahmadabad on Sunday morning. The Bundi court said the right to freedom of speech under the Indian Constitution is not unlimited, while rejecting the bail application of the actor. (Photo: Instagram)

Payal tweets about her arrest

On December 15, Payal tweeted about her arrest. "I am arrested by @PoliceRajasthan for making a video on #MotilalNehru which I made from taking information from @google Freedom of Speech is a joke," she wrote. (Photo: Instagram)

FIR against Rohatgi

An FIR was registered against Rohatgi on October 10 under the IT Act in the Sadar police station of Bundi, after the state youth Congress general secretary, Charmesh Sharma, gave a written complaint with a clip of the allegedly defamatory post to the Bundi police. Sharma had alleged in his complaint that the video has hateful comments, which are detrimental to the unity and integrity of the country. (Photo: Instagram)

Sangram Singh stands in support of fiancee

Rohatgi has already admitted to uploading a post on Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, and other members of the Nehru-Gandhi family in September this year, and had apologised for it. Bhupendra Sahay Saxena, the legal counsel of Rohatgi, said he would file a bail application in an upper court. Sangram Singh, Rohatgi’s fiancé, was also present in the court on Monday and told the media that the actor’s arrest was politically motivated. (Photo: Instagram)
