’s family and friends gathered at the Dindoshi Sessions Court (Goregaon East) on Tuesday, hoping that he would secure bail in a case of alleged
rape and extortion
charges, levelled against him by a tantrik-cum-healer. However, the hearing which was supposed to take place yesterday, was postponed by a day after the complainant’s lawyer requested the court for more time to reply to the bail application that has been tendered by Karan’s team. Present at the court were Karan’s sister Gurbani, along with his friends, including
Sherrin Verghese
, Chaitanya Bhosle and Siddharth Haldipur.
Karan’s lawyer Dinesh Tiwari told BT, “It’s frustrating, as we were expecting to secure bail in the case. However, the complainant’s lawyer wanted to be heard in the matter. I told the honourable court that it’s a tactic to delay the hearing and it seems like it is a personal vendetta. I said that I leave it to the discretion and wisdom of the court, whether it would like to hear them, because whatever they had to say, including what happened before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Andheri East, has already been placed on record required for this proceeding.”
BT also spoke with Gurbani, who said, “I am positive and am hoping that Karan will be with us soon.”
The past few days have seen Karan’s friends and family rallying around in his support. The Oshiwara police had lodged an FIR against Karan under Section 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code.
