Mahabharat actor Satish Kaul faces financial crisis at 73; says It's ok if you have forgotten me, right now I need attention as a human'

Actor Satish Kaul (73), who is best remembered as Lord Indra from BR Chopra’s mythological show, Mahabharat is going through a tough phase. The actor, who has done a vast work in the Punjab film industry too, is in dire need of money and can’t even bear his basic expenses. The crisis began after his acting school shut in Punjab in 2011 and that’s where he lost all his money. The actor was then staying at an old-age home and is currently staying at his nurse, Satya Devi’s house. (By: Neha Maheshwari)

Satish Kaul’s appeal to the industry

"I'm struggling for medicines, groceries and basic needs. I appeal to the industry people to help me. I got so much love as an actor, I need some attention now as a human in need," Kaul told PTI. Satish Kaul also added that it is completely fine if people have forgotten him. He says that he has received so much love from the audience and will always be grateful for it. The actor, who has also worked in Aunty No. 1, says, “It's ok if they've forgotten me. I got so much love and I'm grateful. I will forever be indebted to the audience for that. Right now, I wish I am able to buy a decent place of my own where I can stay.” (Source: PTI) (Photo: Instagram)

Unable to bear basic expenses

Actress Priti Sapru has stayed in touch with Satish Kaul, she told BT, “For the past few years, he has been staying with a nurse (Satya), who used to take care of him in an old-age home. He calls me whenever he is in distress. That’s how I am aware of his situation. He has been staying at Satya’s home since three years; she was nursing him when he was in an old-age home in Ludhiana. I once visited him at her place during a shoot. I also tried to raise funds for him and wrote to the government of Punjab, as he worked in the Punjabi film industry. The Punjab government gave him Rs 5 lakh and others helped him, too.”(Photo: Instagram)

'He didn't save when he was working'

Priti Sapru says that had Satish been a little wiser during his heyday, then situations wouldn’t have worsened. She says, “I blame only him and his foolishness for his current situation. He didn’t save when he was working. Now, he is completely dependent on others. He is broke. Had he been fine, he would have got work in daily soaps and Punjabi films.(Photo: Instagram)

Hip Bone fracture

Actress Priti Sapru informed that Satish Kaul met with an accident and hurt his backbone. She said, "He had to be operated on immediately. Back then, my sister and I had sent him money for the surgery.” Speaking about the same, Satish Kaul told PTI, "It came to a halt and whatever work I was doing later was affected after I fractured my hip bone in 2015. For two and a half years, I was bed-ridden in the hospital. Then I had to check in to an old age home where I stayed for two years."(Photo: Instagram)

‘Seeked financial help for him in the past’

In the interview, Priti stated that she last met Satish around five months ago, when he came to Mumbai. Recalling the meeting, she said, “I had invited him and Satya for lunch. I also made him write a letter to Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPAA) seeking financial aid, as the association is helping a lot of needy people. I feel people should come forward and help Satish, too.”(Photo: Instagram)

Provision to help the old and needy of the entertainment industry

Due to this lockdown, many TV actors are complaining of their money being exhausted and demanding to scrap the 90 days payment structure so that actors don’t suffer. Adding to it, Priti Sapru said, “The government and the film industry should collectively devise a plan to secure the future of artistes, who are old and out of work. There is no one to help the needy in the industry.”(Photo: Instagram)

‘Want him to return to the old-age home’

The actress wants Satish Kaul to return to the old-age home and lead a comfortable life. She said that he is diabetic and needs to always be attended by someone. Priti says that she will personally visit Satish in Punjab and make arrangements for him to live peacefully. She told us, “I will be going to Punjab post the lockdown. There is a beautiful old age home, where Satish was staying before Satya took him along with her. It’s nice of the lady, but I want him to return to the old-age home. I am wondering why Satish left in the first place. I plan to meet the owners of the old age home and request them for a discount. We will take care of his expenses while he stays there comfortably. He is diabetic and has other health woes, too. We want him to be attended to all the time.”(Photo: Instagram)

All people therefore have to keep some money apart when they are earning in order to fend of old age. This is the moral to be taken to heart when we are still young.
