Long run mein modelling can not be a career option: Actor Akshit Sukhija

Born in Punjab, raised in Delhi and now in Mumbai, model turned actor Akshit Sukhija has made his television debut with the show Shubharambh. “Shubharambh is my first show as lead and I am really excited about its. Earlier, I did the second season of the show Silsila Badaltey Rishton Ka but unfortunately it was not aired on the channel but on its OTT platform.All this while I had been praying for a grand start on TV and thankfully Shubharambh happened,” says Akshit who was in Lucknow, recently.
Ask him about his modelling experience, and Akshit says he was not quite happy with it. “I was earlier into print modelling for several brands. I knew ki long run mein modelling can not be a career option. Modelling has a very short shelf life. Jab tak shakal hai tab tak only you can be a model but acting has nothing to do with shakal. The moment models start getting wrinkles on their face, their career is over. Male models ka toh industry mein aur bhi bura haal hai but main zyada depth mein iss topic pe toh nahi jana chahunga. Work wise also, the industry is still more female dominated. My modelling experience has not been that great, especially in Delhi. Bahut time waste kiya hai mera logon ne kaam dilane ke naame pe.”
But modelling has given Akshit a memorable experience. “I remember when the class XII results were announced, jahaan mere school ke toppers ki chhoti-chhoti picture newspaper mein aayi thi, my print ad was there in the newspapers with a huge picture of mine. So that was a really memorable experience for me, which made my dream of becoming an actor one day more sure,” he says.
Akshit recently promoted his debut show on Bigg Boss with Salman Khan. “Meeting Salman sir was a really big deal for a newcomer like me. Backstage, I was nervous. And the moment I shared the stage with him, I was told my blazer is shinning on the camera and so it had to be removed. And Salman sir was like ki isko meri jacket de do. My day was made as I wore ‘Salman Khan’s’ jacket that day! He made me really comfortable and all my nervousness went away within minutes as I started interacting with him,” he says.
