Early days in her career

Bharti shared how she got a call for Laughter Challenge and that changed her life. She said, “I got a call from the production house and they asked me for my dates. We had a small house and we used to sleep on the terrace. So all these things were new to me. They shortlisted my name and called me for the show and that was the first time I and my mom got to travel in a flight. People say when they come to Mumbai, they have a lot of struggle. However, in my case, I have never seen any struggle and ever since I came to Mumbai, I have been getting a lot of work.”

Bohot down-to-earth, baat sunte hain, itna appreciate karte hain kyunki voh banda jhoota nahi hai.”

On getting ‘sexually harassed’

“When I didn’t have money, I used to go to colleges to teach comedy and I wasn’t aware what good touch and bad touch was. I used to take the 5 am bus and for a very long time I didn’t understand when they used to push me or try to touch me. However, after a while I realised what those men were trying to do and that’s when I fought back. There were times on stage when people would touch me inappropriately while clicking pictures and Kapil Sharma would teach me how I should behave.”

Self-made woman. An inspiration to under-privileged people who say they don't have any oppurtunities and also to those privileged ones who don't use their resources due to laziness. Hope she continues to make us laugh for years to come.
