From earning ₹500 a month to owning properties worth more than ₹50 crore, net worth and more: Kapil Sharma’s rags-to-riches story

Kapil Sharma is currently entertaining fans with The Great Indian Kapil Show. He has been winning hearts with his comic timing and entertaining episodes every weekend. What many don’t know is how the actor, who once used to earn ₹500 a month, now owns properties worth more than ₹50 crore. Here’s a look at his rags-to-riches story.

Early Life

Kapil Sharma, who is widely loved for his comic timing, is originally from Amritsar and completed his schooling in the city. The comedian and actor initially studied Commercial Arts and Computers. He later began teaching theatre to college students. After the death of his father, who served in the police force, he became the primary breadwinner for his family — and that’s when the real struggle for Kapil began.

Financial Struggles and Working at a PCO

Not many know that Kapil Sharma worked at a PCO after completing his 10th grade. Following the demise of his father, Kapil had to take up various odd jobs to earn pocket money. In an interview with The Times of India, he shared, “I started working at a PCO after Class X to make some pocket money. I miss my father now, but at the time, I would scold him and say, ‘Daddy, you don’t take care of yourself, and that’s why you got cancer.’ Watching him in so much pain, I even prayed for God to take him. We had no money then and were living in a rented house.”

He further said, “My mother tells me that for the first two days after receiving his salary, he would drink and enjoy chicken at home, and then work through the rest of the month. Whenever something good happens today, I miss him. If he was alive, I’d bring him the best scotch. I cried a lot when I found out he had cancer. Once I caught him drinking, and he said, ‘Forget it, I’m going to die anyway.’” According to reports, there was a time when he earned ₹500 per month.
