Exclusive – Parth Samthaan on Mahid’s popularity, Sehar Hone Ko Hai and work-life balance: ‘We never tried to create controversy or show religion as propaganda’

Television actor Parth Samthaan, who is currently seen in 'Sehar Hone Ko Hai', is winning viewers' hearts with his intense performance as Mahid Niyazi. We are very happy. We feel truly blessed, and we worked very hard for this. Our content is different—our world and even our language stand out, which makes me very proud to be part of this show. The credit goes to the producer and the writer. I have worked with her earlier, so I had that trust. Yes, there was always a risk that anything we say could become controversial. That’s why our focus stayed on emotions and the story. We never showed any religion as propaganda or tried to create controversy. That was never our intention. We focused on family and relationship emotions that people can relate to in every home. Very few shows like this are made, and we are glad it has been appreciated. Today, with OTT, we all watch content from across the world, even from across the border, Pakistani shows and we enjoy it honestly. I feel there are so many strong stories within the Muslim community that can be explored. Why not create shows with depth and real emotions from different communities? (Photo: Instagram)

I’m grateful to be part of such a show because I’ve learned a lot. I’m not from that community, I am not a Muslim. I am a Hindu guy and I'm playing this character of Mahid but yes, there was so much for me to learn every day. It has been a learning experience every day on the sets, and I truly enjoy it. He isn’t someone you would call a typical ‘boy next door’ or someone you meet in everyday life. His values, style, look, aura, and thinking are all very different. That’s what stood out to me about the character. My focus was to do justice to it and bring to life what Richa has written so well. I’ve learned that everything depends on the situation you are in—what you’re going through in life and how you approach your work. Whatever you want to achieve, you have to take risks for it. For me, life has been a journey full of challenges and learning. I’ve gained a lot of experience, and I’m still learning every day. It’s important to keep exploring yourself. I stay fully focused on whatever I’m doing. That’s just my nature. Even right now, while talking, my full attention is here. I believe in giving complete focus to one thing at a time. But sometimes, this also becomes a drawback. Many people can multitask and balance their lives well, but when I get into work, I tend to forget everything else, even my personal life. I would have loved to do the show, honestly. They had approached me and we even had a meeting, but it didn’t work out because of dates and budget. For now, I was interested in doing Khatron Ke Khiladi, especially since Colors feels like family.
