EXCLUSIVE: Love School 4 winners Sunny Cheema and Manpreet Kaur on live-in relationship, threatening fan messages and more

The fourth edition of Love School witnessed a memorable end and found its winners in Sunny Cheema and Manpreet Kaur. In an exclusive candid conversation with TimesofIndia.com, the couple spoke about their live-in relationship, getting threatening messages from fans, all things love and much more. We didn’t participate to win

Manpreet says, “We wanted to work on our relationship. We wanted to see if we could do this together. We didn’t take the competition seriously at first. We had a life outside Love School. Winning was never in our head. That came slowly when we started winning the tasks.”

‘Manpreet was about to quit’

On the last day the couple was about to quit. While it was not on cam, Manpreet says, “I was not keeping well and wanted to leave on the last day. Sunny supported me saying nothing is above my health.” Sunny adds, “She was bedridden and we were sure that we wouldn’t be able to perform but she took medicines and we performed.”

Bonding over paranthas

Sunny says, “We met at a party and Punjabi songs were playing. That’s where we interacted.” Manpreet adds, “I had seen him earlier and never liked. He had a typical accent and I hated it. But after the house party, we bonded over paranthas and our Punjabi background.”

5/9

A special proposal

Manpreet was in Goa and had asked Sunny to propose to her in a special way. Sunny reveals, “She wanted it to be different and I mailed her.” And Manpreet’s roommate totally approved their relationship and convinced her to say a ‘yes’ to Sunny. Manpreet adds, “My roommate was impressed to see his old-school style proposal.”

Perils of being in a live-in relationship

The couple started living together soon after professing their love for each other. They felt taking each other for granted. Sunny said, “We were together constantly and things would have been better for us had we not been in a live-in.” Manpreet adds, “After coming out of the house, we have overcome that and have learnt to give each other space.” Sunny reveals that he goes out of the house to give her some time when they fight, else they patch up over good food.

Dealing with – The Parents

While Sunny’s parents were totally cool about their live-in relationship, Manpreet’s parents had no idea about it until the episode went on-air. For the uninitiated, in one of the tasks, the couples had to make their relationship official to their parents. Sunny says, “My parents always supported the fact that it’s my life and I have the freedom to choose my partner.” Manpreet differs, “Convincing my parents was a nightmare.”

8/9

Opposites attract

Sunny has always been very vocal and open about Manpreet being his girlfriend. On the other hand, Manpreet is more reserved and only her inner circle had the idea about their relationship. Sunny says, “My mom knew about Manpreet being my girlfriend and I told her, ‘She will be your daughter-in-law’.”

9/9

Feeling the pressure of making a relationship public

“Fans not only guide us and advise us about our relationship but sometimes they also threaten us saying, ‘isko mat chhodna’. (Don’t ever leave her) and things like that. Our fans used to fight with fans of other Love School couples,” said Sunny. Manpreet adds, “People were posting abusive language not only for the couples but also their families. They started commenting on photos. It’s stressful for me.”
