Divyanka Tripathi opens up about painful C-section recovery after welcoming twins; says, ‘One cough felt like a blast inside my stomach’
Divyanka Tripathi, who recently welcomed her twins, shared a vlog on her YouTube channel in which she opened up about her motherhood journey and how she has been recovering after delivery. The actress candidly spoke about the physical challenges of postpartum recovery, particularly after undergoing a C-section.
Recalling a painful experience, Divyanka said, “I got a cough, and that one cough took my life. It felt like there was a blast inside my stomach. It hurt so much.”
She went on to explain why even a simple cough can be extremely painful after a C-section, especially following a twin pregnancy. According to the actress, the uterus expands significantly during pregnancy to accommodate the babies, fluids, and placenta, and the body undergoes a major adjustment once everything is removed during delivery.
“The uterus’s original shape is like a small melon. When your twin pregnancy happens, it increases, increases, increases. Its volume becomes 8 to 10 liters. But when suddenly the babies, fluids, and placenta are removed, the empty space becomes all blank,” she explained.
Divyanka further shared that the abdominal muscles, ligaments, and tissues stretch considerably during pregnancy and remain loose immediately after childbirth. Since multiple layers of tissue are cut during a C-section, recovery can be particularly difficult.
“It’s not just one cut that is done; five layers are being cut. After that, if one cough comes and everything is loose inside, the incisions, the stitches, the stomach wall, everything goes haywire. It becomes extremely painful to handle,” she said.
Emphasising the realities of motherhood, the actress said, “I just want to tell you that pregnancy is in no way easy.”
Divyanka also highlighted the importance of nutrition and rest during the postpartum period. She revealed that she was initially hesitant to eat traditional postpartum laddoos because she feared gaining weight, but her doctor advised otherwise.
“My doctor told me that methi is very good for lactation and advised me to eat methi laddoos,” she shared.
She added that simple and nutritious foods such as fenugreek, jaggery, and dry-fruit laddoos can help support recovery. “You don’t need fancy food. Simple nutritious food can also help you take care of yourself,” she said.
The actress also urged families to support new mothers during this phase. “I would request people to please understand them. The better care you take of your daughter or daughter-in-law, the better the atmosphere at home will be and the more stress-free she will feel,” she said.
Addressing women directly, Divyanka encouraged them not to compare their recovery journeys with others.
“If you watch my vlogs and think that I’ve already started walking around, remember that this is my capacity. Everyone’s capacity is different. Listen to your body’s cues. If your body is telling you to rest, then rest,” she advised.
She concluded by reminding mothers to prioritise rest whenever possible. “Feeding takes a lot of time. If you get even half an hour in between, just stretch your legs and go to sleep,” she said.
