CID's Inspector Abhijeet aka Aditya Srivastava on playing the cop: I had signed up for the show only for 26 episodes

CID is set to return to small screens after a hiatus of 3-4 years with its second season. The show has been the longest-running crime drama on television, and fans are ecstatic that it is returning. In a recent podcast, Aditya Srivastava and Dayanand Shetty discussed their CID days and how they got the role. Here's what they shared:

2/6

The CID cast still has their badges

We still have the badges, we have a whole trunk with CID property. It is on everyone's names and all badges we have with the logo and inside there was the identification. Sabka banaya tha alag se. When it was new we were all excited like a small kid. Later we would take each other's card for the take as we had to only show the CID logo.

3/6

BP Singh wanted Aditya to play the cop

In those days, my one film had released Satya and I played the character of a cop Khandilkar. And Satya got quite popular, so Singh Sahab wanted to take me as a cop in CID. And at that time, I had 2-4 films in the pipeline. I had done enough TV before that so I wasn't much interested in doing it. So when Singh Sahab approached me I kept dodging the conversation.

4/6

Aditya first played a criminal in CID

Then for the first time, I came as a criminal in the show. That first scene was where I was running after snatching ACP's gun. CID wale piche the aur main aage aage. Daya wasn't there in that episode, his father had passed away at that time and was on break.

5/6

Did an episodic for CID

Deewar happened much later, I didn't want to play a cop at that time. Shreedhar Raghavan was the writer and he was my friend. I was free and he approached me for that episode to do and I did it. I didn't know what were they thinking but then he said 'cop aaja yaar.'

6/6

Was hesitant about playing a cop in CID

I was hesitant about it but then there were meetings and I agreed saying I would do only 26 episodes. At that time there used to be 2 episodes for one story. So I had agreed to do 13 stories and they were like 'tu aa toh ja, tujhe jab jana hoga toh tere naam ki goli rakhi hai, tera track khatam kar denge.' But just like Daya, the rest is history, from 26 episodes, it continued for 20 years.
