Charu Asopa on suffering from postpartum depression after delivering Ziana: I wasn't getting breast milk, and people questioned me for giving formula

Charu Asopa is an active YouTuber. The actress took several fan questions in her new vlog wherein she revealed a lot more about how she started her journey in showbiz, her life as a single parent, suffering from postpartum depression after delivering Ziana and more. Here's all that she said in her new video.

2/7

How Charu came to Mumbai

Charu said, "My father had asked me to complete my graduation before coming to Mumbai. So after I gave my last exam of B.Com, I asked my dad to get me a train ticket. I came with my entire family to Mumbai. We found a house here. I started giving auditions. But I didn't know anyone so I joined an acting school to make contacts and learn more about giving auditions. My first show was Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and from there I kept taking steps to be where I am."

3/7

Remaining calm in stressful situations

"I feel that struggles will keep coming but if you handle them calmly, you'd be able to do better. This is not going to be so if you panic or cry. I can't afford to go wrong because I have Ziana in my life and she is my top priority. I have no option than to be strong. I don't have a shoulder to cry on. You need to keep moving with life."

4/7

Handling stress and anxiety as a single parent

Charu revealed, "I am a single parent and a working mother. I have a daughter so I have her responsibility as well. I have to manage my professional life along with my personal life. Time management is on me. I think all mothers have it. They are playing all the roles efficiently. The only negative thing with me is that when I go to work, I keep worrying about Ziana and that is why I have got cameras installed at home and taken precautions. I manage my responsibilities when Ziana is sleeping, I try working from home but when I am shooting, it's difficult. I call her on the sets at lunch. There's a homely environment on sets as well. I can feed her in my make-up room and make her sleep there. When I was shooting for a show, the production house gave me a big room keeping Ziana in mind. I strongly believe 'Where there is a will, there is a way'. Ziana is my biggest stressbuster. I see her face and forget all the stress and anxiety."

5/7

How to be mentally strong

"I'd suggest remaining independent, making your decision-making power strong. Do not think that someone else would support you, You have come alone and should be able to manage alone. I feel situations in life teach you sometimes. I didn't even know that I could be mentally strong. But that doesn't mean that I don't have breakdowns. Sometimes you feel directionless, and you don't know what to do. It's okay to cry but then dust yourself, and get up and do what you have to. We are humans and tend to be emotional. My motivation is Ziana and I want her to be happy. That is why I am mentally stronger. I can't afford to be broken."

6/7

Future planning

Like many parents, Charu is also thinking of life in the long run because now she has Ziana. She said, "I take life as it comes. But because I have Ziana, I plan my future a little. I am not planning on a large scale. Right now, the plan is to find a playschool for Ziana. I want to do good work so she and I can have a good life. I want to change my house, buy a new one. These are all normal ambitions that I have."

7/7

Suffering from postpartum depression

Charu shared what happened at the time of birth. She said her hands were tied at the time of delivery so she couldn't touch Ziana and could only kiss her from afar. She shared some of the health issues she developed. Charu said, "I got a spinal headache. I wasn't able to feed her because I wasn't getting breast milk. Others would tell me it weakens the baby. I was vomiting on my way back home from the hospital two days after I was discharged. My spinal headache got better but the breast milk wasn't coming and it stressed me out. I had to start baby formula for Ziana. People would question me for it. But after a week, when the milk started coming, it wasn't enough. I had pain, there was soreness. It was a difficult time. It led to depression. I kept myself busy with vlogs. I used to show my journey with Ziana. My depression just went away once I started working. It kept me away from negative thoughts. If you have a baby, there are small health issues that need to be dealt with. But now over a period of time, I know why she is crying, if she is crying. Motherhood is a little isolating but then when your child is with you, all the pain goes away."

just food for thought: our mothers never suffered from postpartum depression. because they had to take care of us. they just loved us that much that this depression thing was not even in their mind. but NOW u have a nanny for the kid, cook for making food , a cleaning lady for the home. So of course what else is left. DEPRESSION. ALSO, earlier there used to be combined families so even if the mother was having less breast milk, an aunt or someone else would help out. Now u want to live on your own and just cry about everything else.
