Bigg Boss 13 rocks the TRP chart; here's what made the season a big hit

Unlike its previous seasons, Bigg Boss 13 has made history of sorts by remaining on the list of top five shows on television. There were unexpected twists and incidents in the game that kept the viewers hooked this time. Here's a list of what made the season a big hit. (Photo: Instagram)

New format

Since Bigg Boss 12 failed to impress, the makers introduced a new format this time around. The four-week finale saw sudden evictions, in pairs. Even Rashami Desai and Devoleena Bhattacharjee were sent to a secret room in the initial days of the game. While many contestants were ousted, there were surprise wild card entries all through the season. Some of the names included Tehseen Poonawalla, Hindustani Bhau, Shefali Bagga, Vishal Aditya Singh, Shefali Jariwala among others. No previous season had seen such a huge change in the line-up of contestants. Viewers just didn't know what to expect next!

Surprise entries and exits

It's not just wild card entries, but the makers experimented with guests who entered the house for a short stay like Vikas Gupta. Every week there was a new entry or exit. Nothing was constant this season, and the surprise elements kept the viewers hooked.

Salman Khan's shocking revelations

Salman Khan, who hosted the season yet again, made some shocking revelations about the personal lives of the contestants that it created a furore inside and outside the house. Unlike the previous seasons, the Bollywood actor not only exposed Arhaan Khan's marriage and child in front of Rashami Desai but also didn't hesitate to tell Himanshi Khurana about Asim Riaz's girlfriend. He even went inside the house to console a heartbroken Rashami. On another occasion, he cleaned the utensils in a fit of rage to teach inmates a lesson. (Photo: Instagram)

Connection playing for contestants

When connections went inside the house to support their favourite contestants, the game took another interesting turn. The housemates turned even more competitive. There were more fights and gossip. While Kashmera who entered the house to support sister-in-law Arti fought with Vikas Gupta, Sidharth's connection, Shefali Jariwala was no less when it came to saving her connection, Paras Chhabra. The contestants for the first time also got an outsider perspective of what's happening in the game and what's going on outside. (Photo: Instagram)

Ugly fights

Bigg Boss 13 caught everyone's attention due to its nasty fights, physical and verbal. Bigg Boss had to abort a number of tasks after the contestants got injured due to pushing each other and using their physical power. Be it fights between Asim Riaz and Sidharth Shukla, or Paras and Rashami getting physically hurt during the tasks, contestants didn't leave any chance to make noise or yell at each other. Fan clubs and celebrities at war

This time around it wasn't just the contestants fighting with each other, but also their fan clubs who were at war on social media. Asim Riaz and Sidharth Shukla's fans were seen bad mouthing each other on Twitter almost all through the season. They lashed out at each other with their hashtags. Even celebrities who supported Asim or Sidharth got into the limelight as they got embroiled in Twitter wars. Kamya Panjabi and Vindu Dara Singh are examples of it as they received hatred from Asim's fans on a daily basis.

Romantic liaisons of the contestants in and outside the house

This time it wasn't just the lovey-dovey stuff that made headlines, but some legit relationship secrets of the contestants that got out on national television. Everyone enjoyed watching a modern-day relationship like Sidharth Shukla and Shehnaz Gill's but Asim and Himanshi got an instant disapproval from the audience as the former's affair and hypocrisy was exposed by Vikas Gupta and Salman. A glimpse into the personal lives of the contestants was a first and definitely made things interesting for the viewers to watch.
