Bigg Boss 13: From possessive boyfriend to plastic surgery, a look at Koena Mitra's controversial life

Former contestant Koena Mitra and original Saki Saki girl Koena Mitra has bagged the 10th spot in the list of most searched Indian personalities on Google in 2019. Koena stunned everyone with her blunt nature and accused makers and host Salman Khan of biased behaviour. The fans of Bigg Boss 13 felt she was the most honest contestant and needed to stay in the game. Her early eviction was also considered unfair by many and fans began trending her right after her elimination.

Koena Mitra, who was seen as a participant in Bigg Boss 13, hasn't had it easy. Even though the actress started her career on a high note with 'Saki Saki' from Musafir and caught the attention of many, her professional life went downhill post her plastic surgery. Here's taking a look at her controversial life and stint in Bigg Boss 13.

Koena was once in a relationship with a Turkish man, who was a senior pilot. Their relationship ended in 2010. On the show, Koena herself revealed how her Turkish boyfriend was very possessive. He once locked her in the bathroom when she had to go out for an event. He didn't want her to go to work. She further shared he insisted that she should come to meet his parents in Turkey. Later, he even said that he would burn her passport once they get married, so that she stays only with him. Koena said she has been single ever since the traumatic experience.

Koena went for plastic surgery in 2010. The decision turned out to be disastrous as her bones swelled up after the surgery. Talking to TOI in 2013, she said, "Even the doctors gave up and said that only medicine and prayers will work." With an altered face, wherein she confessed it became difficult to even smile, she started to go out but was rejected by many of her friends. She, however, considers herself brave for speaking about it openly.

The actress was convicted in a cheque bounce case and sentenced to six months of imprisonment. The order was passed on July 6 by a Mumbai court. Koena was also directed to pay model Poonam Sethi, the complainant, a compensation of Rs 4.64 lakh. Apparently, Mitra had borrowed Rs 22 lakh from the model over a period of time, but she failed to return the entire amount. When her cheque of Rs 3 lakh to Sethi bounced, the latter issued a legal notice to the actress in 2013. Koena had said back then she was being framed and the case was false.

Before her relationship with the Turkish man, Koena was reportedly dating model Rajeev Singh. The relationship wasn't talked about much and apparently didn't last long. On Bigg Boss 13, Koena said that she has been single for 7 to 8 years now. She doesn't even seem to be seeking love.

Right after her plastic surgery failed, Koena shared in an interview with TOI that many of her friends from the showbiz left her side. It not only damaged her face, but also her career. Even though offers continued to come her way, there was nothing that did justice to her talent. That's when a friend of hers from Los Angeles asked her for an audition tape. Koena then hired a camera team, sent the tape and was approved for a project. She left for LA in November, 2011.

During Koena's stay in the house of Bigg Boss 13, she was hailed as the boss lady. Her confident demeanor and the ability to call a spade a spade has earned her the title by her fans. Often in the house, Koena took her own stand, and played an individual game.

Considering it's a house which has other inmates, not everyone is respectful towards Koena. Shehnaz was seen imitating Koena, and had even called her scary. This made the actress upset, and she definitely gave Shehnaz a piece of her mind. Koena stood out as someone who is solid.

Koena has been trending ever since she has stepped outside the house of Bigg Boss 13. Hailing from a conservative and religious family, the actress has not only scolded others for their mistakes, but also forgiven inmates when they came to her and apologised. Case in point being Sidharth Shukla. Koena readily let go of bygones and accepted his apology when he came to her after their fight.
