Avinash Wadhawan, who has acted in a number of films in the 90s, says this is the best time for actors. They can dabble in different mediums today and there are no restrictions even in terms of the roles they take up. “I want to make the best of this time,” he says.
Talking about the 90s when he was busy doing films like Phool Bane Patthar, Faraar and Junoon, Avinash shares an interesting incident that took place back then.
It has got to do with his favourite actor
Amitabh Bachchan. Avinash received a call from Big B himself and recounting that time, he shares, “That was in 1992 when I was still a newcomer and shooting for a movie in Mumbai. Those days there were only landlines. Somebody came to me and said I had got a call from Amitabhji and I didn’t believe him. I thought he may have got confused, but he insisted saying he had asked for me only. When I took the call, Amitabhji was indeed on the other side and said he had called to invite me for the movie premiere of Khuda Gawah. I couldn’t believe that I had got a call from him. I was thrilled to have got an invite from the person whose films I have watched and learnt from. I was touched by his gesture especially because I was new at that time and had just done a few films.”
Avinash further narrates, “I thanked him for inviting me and said I would surely be present on the day. But he further said if I was shooting for a movie, I shouldn’t cancel it for the premiere. That showed the amount of professionalism he had and that is what makes him the man he is today. I remember I went for the premiere, met him and it was a beautiful experience, which is still fresh in my mind. In fact, I was remembering this on his 80th birthday recently.”
