Ayo Edebiri reveals her childhood crush on Matthew Macfadyen's Mr. Darcy got her 'Grounded'
Ayo Edebiri revealed some fun information about her childhood as she won her first Emmy Award. The Bear actor finally got to meet her childhood crush Matthew Macfadyen.
After the ceremony, the 28-year-old star made a revelation that shocked many. She told her fellow Emmy winner she once “got grounded” for having his face on her computer screensaver. More specifically, she said in the sweet moment captured by Entertainment Tonight that her father saw her still of Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy in 2005’s Pride and Prejudice and questioned her. He asked her, ‘Who’s this man?’”
Macfadyen, chimed in, imagining Edebiri's dad's response: “Who’s this guy in the coat?” The young star went on to describe his Mr. Darcy as someone with “beautiful hair.” Macfadyen was amused — but also impressed — by the same. “She was grounded because she had a screensaver of me as Mr. Darcy on her laptop,” he told in an interview. “Good parenting. It’s good parenting. I hadn’t heard that, but that’s good.”
"I'm making them sit kind of far away from me because I'm a bad kid. But I love you so much. Thank you so much for loving me and letting me feel beautiful and Black and proud of all of that. I just love you so much. Probably not a dream to immigrate to this country and to have your kid be like, 'I want to do improv.’ But you're real ones,” she mentioned.
His work in Succession also earned him the Emmy statuette in the outstanding supporting actor in a drama series category. The star also give a heartfelt speech full of knowing joking as he gave a “special mention” to "my on-screen wife, Sarah Snook, and my other on-screen wife Nicholas Braun."
