The year 2018 was quite eventful. From the shoot impasse due to the dispute between the Artists’ Forum and Welfare Association of Television Producers, marital issues between actors Rahul Banerjee and Priyanka Sarkar to the sad demise of a number of talented actors, the year 2018 witnessed it all. Shoot impasse:

The shoot of Bengali television industry was stalled in August for many days followed by a dispute between the Artists’ Forum and Welfare Association of Television Producers (WATP). While artists demanded pay for overtime, producers weren’t keen on paying since it wasn't a custom till then. There was friction over payment dues as well; while artists wanted it to be cleared within 15 days of the following month, the producers wanted to follow the norm of paying within 60-90 days of the shoot. The artists also demanded incentive for 10 hours of shoot. The channels were forced to air old episodes as there were no fresh episodes. ​Rahul-Priyanka’s divorce:

Actress Priyaka Sarkar has filed for a divorce from her husband Rahul Banerjee. According to reports, she has also demanded whopping Rs. 1 crore as alimony from her hubby. The film actress has also alleged that she has been physically and mentally harassed by Rahul on several occasions. The actor, on the other hand, denied all the allegations. Incidentally, Rahul was replaced by actor Jeetu Kamal in the television serial ‘Ardhangini’, where he was playing the lead role. Demise of actors Goutam Dey and Sucheta Chakraborty

Bengali television industry lost two talented actors, who were suffering from cancer. Veteran actor Goutam Dey passed away on Monday (December 24) morning. The actor, who has done many television serials including ‘Rani Rashmoni’, ‘Kusum Dola’, 'Janmabhoomi', breathed his last due to cancer. Popular television actress Sucheta Chakraborty passed away in August. She was suffering from cancer for a long time. ​Vikram Chatterjee’s comeback post his controversial arrest:

Bengali television actress Vikram Chatterjee made his comeback to the television with the serial ‘Phagun Bou’. The actor was arrested on July 6, 2017 after being charged with culpable homicide in the model Sonika Singh Chauhan's accident case. In a car accident model and actress Sonika succumbed to her injuries and Vikram was injured too. It created a lot of controversy as the police report suggested that he was under the influence of alcohol while driving and the car was beyond permissible speed. But Vikram denied all the charges. TV Payel Chakraborty found dead in a hotel

Bengali TV and film actress Payel Chakraborty was reportedly found dead on the September 5 in a Siliguri hotel. The preliminary investigation suggest that the actress, who is from Netaji Nagar, Kolkata, committed suicide. ​Aspiring actress Moumita Saha’s unnatural death:


In March 2018, the television industry lost yet another aspirant actress. The body of 23-year-old Bengali television actress Moumita Saha was found hanging at her flat. Moumita was residing alone at a rented flat in Ashok Nagar area of Regent Park, South Kolkata. According to the police sources, the actress, who was seen essaying small roles in television serials, was suffering from mental depression. She was seen in ‘Kusum Dola’ and ‘Swapno Udaan’. Dashing comebacks

In 2018, a number of popular actors made their TV comebacks. Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee made his comeback with the non-fiction show 'Ke Hobe Banglar Kotipoti'. Popular television actress Oindrila Sen made a dashing comeback with the television serial ‘Phagun Bou’. The actress was last seen in the television serial ‘Saat Pakey Bandha’. She took a break from the small screen. The show is quite popular and consistently scores well on the TRP charts. Sudipa Chatterjee quits ‘Rannaghar’

Sudipa Chatterjee left the show ‘Rannaghar’ after hosting it for 13 years. Neither the channel nor the actress revealed the actual reason behind her exit. Later, it was revealed that Sudipa was pregnant. Whether it is the real cause behind her decision, isn’t clear till date. But according to the industry sources, there were differences between the host and the makers. She has recently been blessed with a baby boy. Physical assault on Sayak Chakraborty:

In August, 2018, popular Bengali TV actor Sayak Chakraborty has been reportedly physically assaulted by some local miscreants. According to the actor, he went to the local market near Garia station area, Kolkata. While he was buying vegetables, a few anonymous men started abusing him verbally. When protested, Sayak was brutally beaten up by the local miscreants. Sayak lodged a police complaint. In a similar incident in November, actor Jeetu Kamal was reportedly harassed near Satyajit Ray Film Institute, E.M Bypass, by a man, who was under the influence of alcohol. The man was driving a car, which reportedly hit Jeetu’s car. When protested, the man verbally abused the actor and drove the car in such a way, which left Jeetu injured. ​Actress Shreema Bhattacharjee faced harassment:

The ‘Jamai Raja’ actress was reportedly harassed by some local miscreants. Shreema went to visit a place with some of her friends near Bagbazar ghat, Kolkata. As soon as she came LIVE on her Facebook handle, some local guys asked them to leave the place immediately, labeling it ‘unsafe’ for girls.
