From Sreemoyee as Anupamaa to Gaatchora as Teri Meri Doriyaann: Recent Bengali shows remade in Hindi

Drawing ‘inspiration’ is a common phenomenon in showbiz. From a single sequence to entire plot; viewers have seen inspiration in different forms be it in TV shows, movies or the latest favourite web series. Such incidents are more frequent in the world of TV shows. Such ‘Dewa Newa’ (give and take) isn’t uncommon in the world of soap operas. If one tried and tested twist (like return of the protagonist from the grave or vaillain coming back after undergoing plastic surgery) can be replicated across languages; then ‘entertainment ki kasam’ who says no to remakes! Success of one soap opera opens the sluice gate for many such entertainment projects across languages and regions. Several Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu shows have been remade in Bengali while many Bangla television serials prompted makers to launch it in other languages. Here are some recent Bengali soap operas that have been remade in Hindi. (Photo: Facebook)

Sreemoyee-Anupamaa

Who doesn’t love Anupamaa other than, other than Kavya and Baa (at times!). The Hindi soap opera, which has been dominating the TRP charts for a record period of time is the remake of Indrani Halder, Tota Roy Choudhury, Sudip Mukherjee and Ushasie Chakraborty starrer ‘Sreemoyee’. The Bengali show enjoyed a different fan base. ‘Sreemoyee’, which narrated the story of a middle-aged woman trying to start afresh after being battered by her husband and years of deprivation, will remain in the memories of Bengali television audience for a number of reasons. It prompted the makers to launch it in seven different languages including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Odia, Marathi and Hindi. While many of these remake managed to receive an overwhelming response, Rupali Ganguly, Sudhanshu Pandey, Madalsa Sharma Chakraborty and Gaurav Khanna starrer ‘Anupamaa’ has been an instant hit. In Bengali version, Solanki Roy (she left the show a few months back), Gourab Chatterjee teamed up for the first time as the lead pair which turned out to be a huge success. Shreema Bhattacherjee, Anindya Chatterjee, Anushka Goswami and Riaz Laskar play prominent roles. The show also has been remade in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. (Photo: Facebook)

Alta Phoring-Rajjo

Adding one more to the list of recent Bengali shows being remade in Hindi, we have Alta Phoring’s remake Rajjo. The Hindi show starring Celesti Bairagey, Rajveer Singh, Gungun Uprari and others had a brief run on national television while ‘Alta Phoring’ had a successful stint on Bengali small screen. The original show featured Kheyali Mondal, Arnab Banerjee and Shaoli Chatterjee in prominent roles. (Photo: Facebook)

Kusum Dola-Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin

Leena Ganguly’s ‘Kusum Dola’ has inspired a number of Indian soap operas including ‘Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyar Mein’, which initially launched starring Ayesha Singh, Neil Bhatt and Aishwarya Sharma Bhatt. The original Bengali version has been an instant hit and starred Madhumita Sarkar, Rishi Kaushik and Aparajita Ghosh Das. The show has been remade in Tamil, Marathi, Telugu and Kannada too. Mithai

Bengali television’s yet another hit soap opera Mithai was remade in other languages too. While the Adrit Roy Soumitrisha Kundoo starrer is a major hit the Hindi television serial featuring Debattama Saha and Aasish Bhardwaj could not cast its spell on TRP charts and went off air sooner than expected.
