From ‘Kar Kache Koi Moner Katha’ to ‘Ashtami’ – list of serials that are going off-air soon

The Bengali television industry is currently going through a major shuffling. From changing slots to launching new faces and stories – the popular channels are going all guns blazing to retain their viewership and improve ratings. The production houses too are experimenting with stories of their shows, trying to bring up relevant topics and themes to focus on. A popular Bengali television channel is in the process of reorganising its roster with more engaging serials while discarding the ones that are unable to pull in viewers. Which Bengali serials are taking the blow and shutting the shop?

Kar Kache Koi Moner Katha

The Manali Dey starrer serial started its journey in July, last year. The Bengali show has not yet completed a year of its run. But due to its consistently low ratings, ‘Kar Kache Koi Moner Katha’ is going off-air soon. The show initially started with the idea of portraying female friendship on screen. The show had an interesting storyline that followed the journey of a newlywed girl (Shimul) who struggled to find her place to belong to her in-laws’ family. Shimul was accepted by neither her husband nor her in-laws. A dejected Shimul found her tribe in the women in her neighbourhood. However, as the story progressed – the focus shifted from its original concept and since then, it has been struggling to keep the audience engaged with the show.

Ashtami

The Ritobrota Dey starrer show started its journey only two months ago. The Organic Studios produced serial aimed to narrate the story of a girl striving to spread awareness against injustice under the guise of age-old superstitious practices. However, the show failed to capture the hearts of the audience and that was reflected on the ratings chart. ‘Ashtami’ is drawing its curtains in just two months due to consistently low ratings. The first promo of ‘Ashtami’ showed that the female protagonist would become blind due to a fatal accident and she would fight injustice despite her disability. The show is wrapping up before it could delve into that track of the story.

Alor Kole

The NIdeas Creations produced serial has Koushik Roy as its male lead and Swikriti Majumder and Somu Sarkar as female leads. Despite hailing from the production house of the acclaimed and popular Tollywood star Prosenjit Chatterjee, ‘Alor Kole’ has been struggling to appeal to the audience. ‘Alor Kole’ essays the story of a woman named Alo, who keeps protecting her child even after she passes away. Aditya and Radha, the other two protagonists of the show, are now bringing up Pupul, Alo’s daughter. Despite introducing several twists and turns in the story, the show failed to make a mark on the ratings chart.

Jogomaya

‘Kone Bou’ famed actress Neha Amandeep made a comeback on Bengali TV with this serial and was paired with ‘Khelaghor’ famed actor Syed Arefin. ‘Jogomaya’ aimed to narrate the story of the journey of a girl hailing from the slums of Kolkata to the hallowed halls of the changemakers of the society. However, the female-centric serial that began with the idea of promoting women's empowerment lost its way and failed to find acceptance from the audience. A new show is yet to be announced in ‘Jogomaya’s slot. However, the show is rumoured to go off-air soon due to its consistently low ratings.
