From ‘Bhutu’ to ‘Sreemoyee’: Bengali shows which are remade in other languages

In the world of television tried and tested formula mostly works, be it a twist or a story plot. Thanks to the success a few shows, remake is a hit formula in television just like films. From ‘Ogo Bodhu Sundori’ to ‘Bhutu’, a number of Bengali daily soaps have been remade in Hindi and other regional languages. The latest addition is ‘Sreemoyee’ which will soon be launched in Hindi as Anupamaa. Here are some Bengali TV shows which have been remade in other languages… (Photo: Facebook)

​Ogo Bodhu Sundori- Sasural Genda Phool:

Launched in 2009, Ritabhari Chakraborty and Rajdeep Gupta starrer show ‘Ogo Bodhu Sundori’ was a huge hit. Actress Tulika Basu played Ritabhari’s mother-in-law. Lolita, who lost her mom at an early age, got married to Ishan following her dad’s wish. Ishan comes from a joint family. Spoilt brat Lolita finds it difficult to adjust herself after marriage. How is becomes an inseparable part of the family and finds her mom in her mother-in-law, made the crux of the story. The show was later remade in Hindi with the title ‘Sasural Genda Phool’, which starred Ragini Khanna and Jay Soni in the lead roles. Actress Supriya Pilgaonkar played Badi Maa in this show. Interestingly, Roosha Chatterjee, who played Ritabhari’s sister in ‘Ogo Bodhu Sundori’, also played Ragini’s sister in ‘Sasural Genda Phool’.

​Bou Katha Kao-Gustakh Dil

Manali Manisha Dey and Riju Biswas became household names almost overnight, thanks to the success of ‘Bou Kotha Kao’. The show was also remade in Hindi. The Hindi version ‘Gustakh Dil’ had Sana Amin Sheikh, Vibhav Roy and Parvati Sehgal in the lead roles.

​Maa.. Tomay Chara Ghum Asen - Meri Maa

Bengali daily soap 'Maa...Tomay Chara Ghum Asena', is one of the most popular daily soaps launched on Bengali television ever. The bond between mother and daughter was beautifully narrated in this show. The Mahua Halder (as Pratima) and Tithi Bose (as Jhilik) starrer show was so popular back in 2009, that many people had the title track as their ring tone. Owing to the success of the show, it was remade in Hindi. In the Hindi show, ‘Meri Maa’, Avneet Kaur played the little girl while Sayantani Ghosh played a mom. But the Hindi show couldn’t show its wonder and went off-air soon. The show has also been remade in Malayalam with the title ‘Amma’. (Photo: Facebook)

Sansaar Sukher Hoy Romonir Gune-​Alaxmi Ka Super Parivaar

​Bhojo Gobindo-​Bhojogobindo - Jai kanhaia Lal ki

Rohaan Bhattacharjee left the audience floored with his funny antics in the Bengali daily soap ‘Bhojo Gobindo’. The show featured Swastika Dutta, Priya Mondal, Dolon Roy and Dipankar Dey. It was remade in Hindi as ‘Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki’, starring Bengali actress Sweta Bhattacharjee and Vishal Vashishtha in the lead roles. Bhutu:

Who can forget little ghost Bhutu wearing oversized shirt and a mischievous smile on her face? Arshiya Mukherjee stole many hearts with her debut show in deed. Audience cried seeing tears in Bhutu’s eyes, they laughed seeing her mischievous activities. The show was such a hit that it was remade in Hindi. And who else can play the titular role other than Bhutu herself. But the Hindi show didn't do well unlike the Bengali show. (Photo: Facebook)

​Potol Kumar Gaanwala-Kulfi Kumar Bajewala

Innocent Potol, wooed everyone with her smile. The show starring Hiya Dey, Saheb Chatterjee, Swagata Mukherjee, Bhaskar Banerjee and others was so popular that it has been remade in many languages. ‘Kulfi Kumar Bajewala’ in Hindi, ‘Koyilamma’ in Telugu, ‘Vanambadi’ in Malayalam, ‘Mouna Raagam’ in Tamil, are the official remakes of ‘Potol Kumar Gaanwala’. ​Trinayani- Dibyadrusti

‘Trinayani’, starring Shruti Das and Gourab Roy Chowdhury, has been remade in Odia with the title ‘Dibyadrusti’ and the Telugu version will soon be launched starring Ashika Gopal Padukone in the titular role. ​Sreemoyee-Aai Kuthe Kay Karte-Anupamaa:

Bengali television serial is going to have its Hindi remake. Bengali television show ‘Sreemoyee’ will soon have its Hindi remake ‘Anupamaa’.
