Apni Ki Bolen will provide a stage to freely express without the fear of being labelled: Host Debshankar Halder

New non-fiction show ‘Apni Ki Bolen’ is ready to start its journey from today (April 16). The show is hosted by Debshankar Halder, one of the finest actors of Bengali entertainment industry, who is equally eloquent on stage as well as in front of camera. ‘Apni Ki Bolen’ has an interesting concept as the show will provide a stage to the guests to express their voices freely. Host Debshankar is hopeful that the show will not only win viewers’ hearts but also encourage them to find their voices and express them freely. (Photo: Facebook)

The show

“It’s a beautiful concept. Apni Ki Bolen will highlight socially relevant issues and spark a debate. The guests, who are from different walks of life, will express their views. Our research team has been working hard to find out some relevant topics or incidents that could be highlighted in the show. They contacted the concerned person involved in the incident. Later, it was shown to our guests, who expressed their views on the topic,” says Debshankar.

Dealing with emotions

Dealing with delicate subjects as well as emotions isn’t easy. And Debshankar, too, confessed it. “Whenever I am on the stage or facing camera, I try to keep myself away from other things. I try to not get affected. But it isn’t easy to not get affected when you are dealing with emotions. Suppose, I am at the centre of the stage during a performance. So the audience sitting in the front row will see me as the actor in the centre but is it the same for the spectator sitting at the remotest corner? No it isn’t. At times, while shooting, I expressed some views and extended support to someone. At that particular point of time, it appeared right to me. But as soon as I expressed my view, I noticed that the daughter or father of the person whose opinion I contradicted, is looking at me with moist eyes. It strikes me hard. I start thinking that I shouldn’t have said that. Emotions are always delicate and that’s what makes it special,” said Debshankar.

'We have stopped expressing ourselves freely'

The host promised that ‘Apni Ki Bolen’ will provide the wind to the thoughts which aren’t influenced by others. “As we grow up, we stop expressing ourselves freely or at times our thought process is influenced by certain learning. We often tend to think that our opinion might not be accepted by others. People often expect us to behave in a certain way and say certain words in a reply. And such inhibitions gradually stop us from expressing our point of views. Apni Ki Bolen will provide a platform to everyone to freely express their views without labelling it as right on wrong,” he explained. (Photo: Facebook)

Enriching experience

The show will welcome people from different walks of life and witnessing them expressing their views has been an amazing experience for Debshankar. “It has been a great experience. Watching people from different walks of life expressing their emotion, and sharing their views have been an enriching experience for me,” says Debshankar. (Photo: Facebook)

'It's a unique concept and risky too'

The very first glimpse of the show has tickled the curiosity of viewers. “No doubt that it is a unique concept and I am sure people will like it. But it is risky too. In a show, where the entire thing has to be weaved in a way that could be aired in an hour’s format, is something challenging yet exciting,” said the host. (Photo: Facebook)

'We often tend to judge people by appearance'

Debshankar, who is extremely eloquent, shared an insightful experience while hosting the show. “We often tend to judge someone by appearance. It clouds our thoughts. It influenced my thoughts too. A few times, I tried to guess what he or she might say, going by their appearance. And every time I had a preconceived notion, that person proved me wrong. It challenged my point of view, the perspective and enriched me as a host and a human being. I reprimanded myself for reaching a conclusion quickly,” said Debshankar. (Photo: Facebook)
