As regarding the tentative list, it’s an inventory of those properties where each State Party, in this case India, intends to consider for nomination. Although adding a site on the tentative list is the primary requirement for any natural, cultural, or mixed heritage site to make it to the UNESCO World Heritage List, its placement on the said list does not guarantee its position in the esteemed list.
Referring to this, Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy congratulated ASI for constantly identifying more places and monuments for the World Heritage List.
With this development, India now has 52 sites on the UNESCO tentative list that includes the varied natural and cultural wealth of India. Just like last year, India moved a proposal to add six sites to the list, which included the Satpura Tiger Reserve, famous riverfront of the historic city of Varanasi, Maratha Military Architecture in Maharashtra, megalithic site of Hire Benkal, Bhedaghat-Lameta Ghat in Narmada Valley- Jabalpur, and temples of Kanchipuram.
Referring to the Vadnagar town, the Union Culture Minister added that it’s a multi-layered historic town that boasts of history dating back to nearly 8th Century BCE, and still has a large number of historic buildings that are primarily religious and residential in nature.
