France will now have UK travellers quarantine upon arrival

As Europe opens up for summer holidays, France has now announced that it will be mandatory for those coming in from Britain to quarantine. The new rule has been imposed since Britain has a growing case of the Covid-19 variant (B.1.617) that is ravaging India.
According to Gabriel Attal, government spokesperson, “There is a new situation with the progression of the so-called Indian variant in the United Kingdom. (France) will set up compulsory isolation for people coming from the United Kingdom.”

Austria too has imposed restrictions by banning direct flights, and tourist visits from Britain, and as well as Germany. Anyone coming into Austria from the UK is supposed to quarantine for two weeks. In France however, the quarantine must be for seven days, while visitors will also have to show a negative COVID-19 test report that was taken 48 hours before departure.
Britain has reported new cases of B.1.617 variant in the country, even though its incidence is still quite low in the country. The country has after all been one of the world’s fastest vaccinated ones. The new variant of the virus has already been reported in 17 countries.

In India, the B.1.617 variant has already caused tremendous harm, and continues to do so. Even though certain areas of the country are now reporting a downward slide in cases, there is still a long way to go before the second wave dies down.

Coming back to Europe, France sees an approximately 13 million Britain nationals visit the country every year. Of course that has not been the case this last year.
