Tokyo’s temple and shrine district is Asakusa, definitely one of the must-visit parts in Tokyo. Although most of the region was destroyed by mass bombing during World War II, the entire area was rebuilt in the traditional architectural style, same as it was before. Walking around Asakusa is almost like stepping back in time to the Edo period. Nearby shops and restaurants have a historic look to match Senso-Ji Temple. It is almost like stepping back in time to the Edo era. The main street leading up to the temple is Nakamise-dori, and visitors to the famous Senso-Ji Temple have been purchasing souvenirs along this street since the 18th century.Although Senso-Ji Temple is the primary attraction here, there are other temples and shrines nearby, such as Denpoin Temple and Sanja-sama, the Shrine of the Three Gods. This famous Shinto shrine was spared by the air raid bombs and is nearly 400 years old now.
