Magical Mizoram
Northeast India is still one of the most intriguing regions of the country. It is full of charm, allure, folklore, and long-standing trivial traditions, not to mention a vast natural reserve. Mizoram is yet another state where this rings true. The Indian state is known for some wonderful natural treasures, and you would be at a loss if you miss them. Of course, the Lushai Hills is the showstopper here, but there are more attractions that deserve attention.
Romanticise the Blue Mountain
The highest mountain in the Lushai Hills, Phawngpui is fondly known as the Blue Mountain. Located near India’s border with Myanmar, it is known as the Abode of Gods (where local deities reside). Interestingly, the cliffs here are known to be haunted by spirits. Visitors would be glad to know that this is a trekking spot, and you can expect an adventure shrouded in mysteries and folklore.
Wander through Reiek
The village of Reiek is an absolute beauty that deserves your attention. Only about an hour drive away from the capital Aizawl, and will have you follow the flow of Tlawng river. At Reiek, you will instantly find traditional Mizo huts dotted all across the place, along with a traditional Mizo chieftain’s house. Well-maintained by the Tourism Department, this is a peek into the rural life of Mizoram, its traditions, and practices. You can spend a night here to get a complete experience.
Hike in the Murlen National Park
With a variety of flora and fauna, the forests of Murlen offer a great opportunity for some outdoor adventures. You will find quite a few rivers during your trek here, There are about 150 species of birds here, so birdwatchers can expect a great time. One very interesting fact about the forest is that it is so thick that only about one percent of sunlight can penetrate through on a sunny day. There are about six caves here as well.
See tigers at the Dampa Tiger Reserve
In western Mizoram, the Dampa Tiger Reserve is a great place to explore. Here, at the Dampa Tiger Reserve, there have been some rare floral species found, alongside a large variety of bird species. While unfortunately, there is no tiger left here at the reserve, it is still a wonderful opportunity to check out the state’s natural wonders. There are numerous other animals that are spotted here on a daily basis.
