Hariyali Teej in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan (19 August)
Hariyali Teej is one of the prime festivals celebrated in North India. This is the day when women fast for their husbands and perform a number of rituals. Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva are prayed on this day. The festival is mainly celebrated in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Parsi New Year in Maharashtra and Gujarat (16 August)
Also known as Navroz, Parsi New Year is celebrated every year on August 16. This festival is best celebrated in Gujarat and Maharashtra. On this day, people clean and decorate their houses with pretty rangolis and lights.
Independence Day in Delhi (15 August)
India will celebrate its 77th year of independence this August. We got our independence on August 15, 194, and the day has become important for Indian citizens around the world! Delhi, the capital of India, is the best place to be on this day to witness all the colourful Independence Day celebrations.
Onam in Kerala (20 - 31 August)
Onam is a 10-days long festival celebrated in Kerala with much enthusiasm. There are traditional cuisine, local competitions, and so much more. The first day of the festival is called Atham and rituals are performed. This is followed by a number of activities. Kerala turns mesmerising during this festival. A must-experience festival for all!
Raksha Bandhan in Rajasthan (August 30)
Raksha Bandhan is one of the most famous festivals in India that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. Those planning a trip to celebrate this pious festival can head to any destination in Rajasthan as Raksha Bandhan is a colourful affair here.
