Himalayan trek
The Annapurna trek, also known as the Annapurna Circuit, is a Himlayan trek in Nepal. With scenic mountains all around, this will leave you speechless. The trail first opened in 1977, and has been one of the most sought-after ever since. You are required to be fit for the trek as, at times, it can get tiresome, and challenging. The highest point of the trek is Thorung La pass, which is still used by traders.
Here is an insight into the trek.
What is the Annapurna circuit?
The Annapurna Circuit, or Annapurna trek as it is called, is a trek that encircles the Annapurna massif. A group of mountains is called a massif. The trek takes you through central Nepal’s ancient trade route. It covers a total of 203 km, and is one of the most satisfying ones in the Himalayas. The massive mountain ranges really capture your attention, and makes you want to return again and again for this trek.
The circuit route
The Annapurna Circuit has everything one could ask from a scenic trek. You find greenery, you find snow, you find numerous charms along the way. Of course, there is the fact that you are surrounded by the highest peaks in the world; it is quite overwhelming. There are canyons, forests full of tall pine trees, and full of local surprises. The trek however, requires you to be in some ways fitter than usual.
Abode of Lord Vishnu
During your trek, you will cross one of the holiest sites for both Hindus and Buddhists, called Muktinath. Hindus called it the place of salvation, while Buddhists call it Chumig Gyatsa. A very sacred place for Vaishnavas, it is said to be the oldest temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Also, Guru Rinpoche of Tibetan Buddhism is said to have stopped here for meditation. All in all, the trek is a great opportunity for you to visit this holy site.
How to & when to
Of course one would have to go to Nepal to go on this trek. Numerous trekking companies take trekkers on this epic journey each year. October is the best month to go on the Annapurna trek; however, if you want to watch the stunning rhododendrons in full bloom then the end of March to mid-April would be the right time to go. Monsoon is a strict no no. As like most treks, pre and post monsoon is the ideal time.
