Off to Kasol for unique experiences
Kasol in Himachal Pradesh is a hippie capital and a paradise for free souls, solo travellers, nature lovers and thinkers. It is a good destination for a budget trip, and you also get to enjoy some surprisingly delicious food during your stay here. Here are a few experiences you can look forward to in Kasol.
The Kheer Ganga trek
Kheer Ganga is located at about 13050 ft above the sea level. The trek covers a 9-km long route through the green valleys and snow-capped mountains in the Parvati Valley of Kasol. As you ascend the mountains, make it a point to visit the temple of Lord Shiva here and take a dip in its hot springs. Since it is a moderate level trek, hire a local guide to take you through the trek for a better experience.
Visit Manikaran
Manikaran is situated about 3-4 km from Kasol and can be reached via a short trek. Manikaran is visited for its holy gurudwara located on the banks of Beas River. The Gurudwara is famous for its hot springs where people can have a bath and also cook raw rice, which is served as prasad at the langar. This is a sacred site where sage Manu is believed to have restarted life on earth after a long deluge. Guru Nanak Dev also graced this site during his long travels across India.
Of desserts and non-alcoholic beer
Dessert lovers should definitely visit the bakeries in Kasol to grab the sumptuous goodies. German Bakery is a name to reckon with when it comes to baked treats in Kasol. Try their coffee, chocolate muffin, shakes, crepes etc. Kasol is also known for its chang, a local beer made from rice with zero alcohol content.
Get the taste of authentic Israeli food
Due to the presence of a large number of Israelis in Kasol, it has also earned the moniker of the Mini Israel of India. Therefore, it is natural to find Israeli cuisine here at several cafés. Shakshuka, pita bread with hummus and lafa, lemon cakes are a must-try at the Israeli cafés in Kasol. Turquoise Kasol is a cool place to eat delish Israeli food, Moon Dance Café also has a good reputation for offering both visual and gastronomic treats–delicious meals and baked eats along with generous views of the surrounding mountains.
