It’s no surprise that the Indian wildlife scene is one of the best in the world. With 106 national parks, 565 wildlife sanctuaries, 72 bird sanctuaries, 52 tiger reserves, 91,000 species of animals, 45,000 species of plants, 1317 species of birds, 472 species of amphibians and counting, it is safe to say that India is a megadiverse country.
Tigers, leopards, bears, birds and elephants draw a large number of enthusiasts to these wildlife parks. A majority of these visits happen during the daytime. Have you ever wondered how the forest is at nighttime? Various species of birds, animals and amphibians are most active at night and the best way to see them in action is to go for a night safari. Here are some of the best places in India where you can do night safari.
Bhigwan, Maharashtra
Not a wildlife park, but Bhigwan in Maharashtra is one of the best places to see several species of birds, animals and amphibians. Your local nature guide can arrange for a night safari that will take you to places known for nightjars, palm civets, jungle cats and many more.
Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh
Bandhavgarh is one of the most loved national parks in India, famous for the Bengal tiger, leopard, sloth bear, Asiatic jackals and many more. Here you can do the night safari from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM in the Parasi & Pachpedi zone.
Pench National Park, Madhya Pradesh
When the sun goes down, many animals come out and some of them are the Indian wolf, wild boar, hyena, wild dog, and birds like Indian nightjar, and mottled wood owl if you are really lucky. The night safari timing is from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the Tikadi Buffer zone near Karmajhiri gate and Khawasa buffer zone.
Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh
Do the night safari from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM in the Khatia buffer zone & Khapa Gate to see the forest denizens in action. Watch out for the golden jackal, porcupine, leopard and many more.
Tadoba-Andhari National Park, Maharashtra
Here, night safari happens in the Junona buffer zone near Moharli Gate and Palasgaon from 7 PM until 10 PM. If you are lucky, you can spot tigers and sloth bears strolling or on a hunt.
