A quick jaunt just beyond the concrete maze of the city centre can transport you to lush green walking trails and unspoiled beaches. Avoid the more accessible beaches in favour of Tai Long Wan in the New Territories which is slightly tougher to get to, but awards you with clear blue water and sandy beaches devoid of dirt and crowds. There are two approaches you can take, a half-hour-long speedboat ride from Saikung harbour, or, for the more adventurous, a hike from Saikung Country Park. If your budget allows, you can even opt for a quick helicopter ride and land straight on to the helipads just off the beach.
