There are a number of places in and around Calgary to lace up your skates and hit the rink. One of the most popular and favourite places in the city is Olympic Plaza. Located downtown, this rink acts as a gathering place for locals and visitors of all ages. It is the only refrigerated outdoor rink in the city and thus is open from mid November all the way until March. The best time to come is when the sun goes down and the area gets lit up by the dazzling city lights. Open from 10 am to 9 pm daily, you will be hard pressed to find a bad time to skate on this ice. Another popular outdoor skating rink in Calgary is Bowness Lagoon, a recently renovated rink that offers skates, helmets and stabilizer rentals on-site. If you feel like heading an hour or two outside of town, it is Lake Louise where you will find the ultimate outdoor skating rink. Towering mountains surround this ice that is cleared daily and skate rentals are available on-site. Do you know that you can actually skate through the impressive ice-castle that is built on the rink?
