Nearly everyone knows about the Santorini and Mykonos islands in Greece, mostly with their international reputation of being among the prettiest islands in the world.


But, do you know that Greece is home to more than 6000 islands among which nearly 227 are inhabited, and several are yet undiscovered or unexplored.

Amorgos

This Greek island is prized for its unexplored and untouched nature. The island is home to around 600 varieties of plant species, among which some are used as prime ingredients for Greek cuisine. Set at the eastern edge of the Cyclades, the diverse terrain of the island features mountains, caves and hidden coves.

Symi

Another stunning, colourful and lesser-known Greek island is Symi. Symi’s harbour is dazzling and the island has a collection of pastel-hued mansions and churches that look spectacular at sunset. Infl fact, sunset is the best time to witness the beauty of this incredible island that turns golden as the rays of sun touch the blue ocean! A magical view indeed!

Kastellorizo

Never heard of it, right? Well, it is one of the smallest Greek islands boasting of the bluest and clearest waters! You’ll be stunned with the pastel houses and stunning food joints serving fresh seafood. The island has just one village! To reach here, one will have to fly to Rhodes, then take a ferry to the island.

Kea

Probably, this is Greece's best-kept secrets! This magical island is quite local, despite being just an hour from Athens. One can reach this pretty island from Lavrio, which is largely ignored by tourists for some unknown reasons. The island is home to some incredible remote beaches and ancient ruins such as temples dedicated to Apollo and Athena, among others.

Folegandros

A hidden Greek gem, Folegandros is a short ferry ride from Santorini but way less touristy! It’s a perfect island for lovers and romantics looking for some personal space. The architecture on the island is similar to those of famous white and blue buildings of Santorini. But, it feels like some other world altogether!

Milos

A magical Greek island, Milos has a charm of its own! This stunning volcanic island boasts a coastline of over 60 stunning beaches. All the beaches are spectacular and are a craze on Instagram and other social media sites. The waters of the sea can’t get any more clean and blue, and looks like some blue filters have been used. To reach here, one will have to take a hopper flight from Athens.
