Nothing opens in Singapore before 11 in the morning, and when you're a tourist on a mission, time's a-wastin'. So the best way to make the most of the early hours, is to just slip into your walking gear and make your way to the Botanic Gardens which open at 5 every morning to welcome morning joggers, dog-walkers and people practicing their tai-chi moves. Wander along the meandering path through the virgin rainforest to the National Orchid Garden, where you can feast your eyes on a wondrously colourful garden of 3000 species. There's even a food court located just at the entrance near Tanglin Gate, where you can chow down a traditional breakfast of coconut jam on toast with soft-boiled eggs.
