Spectacular Sikkim
As Sikkim opens for tourism after the lockdown period, we can once again look forward to a great Himalayan vacation. We are here to tell you all about it, and to make it clear that Sikkim does not only mean Gangtok, there are way too many amazing experiences out there. While Gangtok is a fine attraction, one of the finest urban hill stations in the country, exploring the lesser known attractions of the state will certainly be rewarding for travellers.
Yuksom
If you are looking for a laidback vacation, Yuksom is the perfect getaway for you. Located in west Sikkim, it is about 143 km away from Gangtok. The first Chogyal was crowned here in the year 1642, and the sacred throne can still be seen here, which is made of stone. Experience the joy of village homestay, and go trekking nearby.
Lachen
Located in the northern part of Sikkim, Lachen is another unexplored paradise with much to offer. Gurudongmar Lake is one of the prime places of interest here. The place is known for its scenic beauty, and trekking here is a blessing. Birdwatchers need to get their binoculars as it is home to exoctic birds as well. With so much happening here, it is safe to say that Lachen is a one-stop destination for your adventures.
Khangchendzonga National Park
If you are really into adventure, hiking, and all the rest of it, this is it, the crème de la crème of Eastern Himalayan adventure. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park is named after Mount Kanchenjunga or Khangchendzonga, the third highest peak in the world. Widely reputed as a trekking paradise, it is home to about 550 species of birds. The national park is a treasure that needs to be protected, so be careful not to litter in here.
Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary
A paradise in Western Sikkim, this is home to fascinating rhododendron trees. Also a great destination for trekking, here at Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary, you will finally realise what it means to be close to nature. The entire region is full of red or white flowers, and you will find small Buddhist shrines on your way.
