Adjacent to St Louis Cathedral on the other side from the Cabildo is the Presbytere. A beautiful building in keeping with the same style as the cathedral, it was begun as a house for the clergy but was never used as such. Instead it was bought by the city and currently houses an elaborate and exquisite collection of Mardi Gras artifacts and memorabilia. The building attempts to narrate the history of New Orleans from the perspective of Mardi Gras tradition. It is done the help of dynamic exhibits which are interactive and high-tech and traces the event from its ancient origins and through history to the present day celebration through parades, balls and extravaganza.
