Jallianwala Bagh
The site of a national tragedy, Jallianwala Bagh is one of the most important sites relate to the Independence struggle of India. The massacre that took place here on April 13, 1919 is said to have killed more than 1000 people, and injuring others. The tragedy took place when Brigadier-General R. E. H. Dyer ordered his troops to fire at innocent unarmed civilians who had gathered here. Rabindranath Tagore had famously renounced his Knighthood in protest against this atrocity.
Wagah Border
A hallmark of national fervor, a trip to Wagah border is a must for all. The border between India and Pakistan is famous for its border ceremony that takes place two hours before sunset everyday. Conducted by the Indian and Pakistani soldiers, it is a retreat ceremony that is attended by hundreds everyday. With national flags fluttering in the air, and screams of nationalistic slogans, this is a unique event that is a must for all. It is located at a distance from Amritsar.
Golden Temple
The most important religious site of the Sikhs, this historic Gurudwara is located in the city of Amritsar. Also known as Harmandir Sahib, and was completed by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das in 1577. The temple is renowned for feeding thousands of people everyday, irrespective of their religion, or background. This is truly a magnificent landmark of the country.
Partition Museum
Stories of the partition will forever be remembered, thanks to this museum. The museum has documented stories from the partition, its aftermath, and more. Located in Amritsar this has a wide collection of objects. The museum was inaugurated on August 25, 2017.
