Located in the old part of Valencia, Mercado Central is the city’s main market. It is nothing much to look at from outside, and is extremely difficult for an outsider to even imagine the existence of such a place since it is entirely covered. But step inside, and you’ll surely be overwhelmed at the first glance itself, because of the beauty and the size of this pre-modernist building. It is a sprawling area filled with rows and rows of stalls and local produce from the Mediterranean area. From vegetables, fruits and dairy to meat, alcohol and condiments, there’s everything under the roof. Besides, the smells are incredible, and it is fun to wander around to taste olives and cheeses, to drink coffee and juices, and to watch locals shop.
