Noteworthy for: From the Stazione Termini take the no. 75 to the Colosseum, the no. 40 to the Vatican or H to Trastevere.

Word to the wise: There are night buses marked with N, but it is safer to take a taxi: public transport pickpockets are rife, especially on routes through the main sights.
Why you would take a bus when you can walk amongst the greatest sights in the world is a mystery, but if you find yourself in a hurry, or need to commute out of the city centre, the bus/tram network is well-developed, albeit crowded and slow due to congestion.

Buy your ticket before boarding from a tabacchi or bus terminal as they do not issue them on the vehicle, and make sure you validate your ticket upon boarding in the small machine. You do this on the first and last bus you take during the 100-minute window that the ticket is valid for.

Bus and tram stops are called 'fermatas' and will have a yellow sign displaying the numbers of the buses that stop there, along with a list of all the stops on each route to help you figure out where you're going.
