Experiences in snow
Nature has a peculiar way of effecting our lives and sentiments. In travel as well, nature plays a major role. Yes, think of snowfall, one turn of nature that is always the most coveted. And if you think of snowfall, what better place than Shimla.
Shimla's wonders are well-recorded by travellers across India, but a snowfall experience is something of a rarity that only a few can ever get. If you are in Shimla this winter, these are some of the best experiences during snowfall.
Mall Road mania
One of the finest experiences of winter snow in Shimla, the Mall Road gets all white and pretty during this time. If you are in Shimla, you have to get here. The old church in the backdrop makes everything all the more beautiful. Everyone starts throwing snowballs at one another, and it is great fun. Later, you can enjoy a warm cup of tea.
When here, dig into Baljee's famous gulab jamuns, for they're a delight on a snowy day.
Chronicles of Kufri
Kufri is situated near Shimla, and is one of the main places of interest for travellers in Shimla. It is only about 16 km away from Shimla, and is a promising getaway. Kufri is nature's paradise, promising amazing experiences. Here in Kufri, you will find yourself surrounded by fine powdery snow on a typical day after snowfall. One of the best places to visit in Kufri during this time is the Great Himalayan Nature Park.
Ride a yak.
There is nothing like experiencing obscure things during your travels, and this is one such thing that will leave you really excited. We have heard of horse, elephant, and even camel rides, but did you ever get on top of a yak? Here in Shimla and its surrounding areas, you can get on top of a yak and explore the snowy terrains. One of the best places to do this is in Kufri.
Go ice skating
Ice skating is a great thing to do here in Shimla, especially during snowfall. The open ice skating rink here in Shimla is a widely popular destination for visitors. There are two sessions on a daily basis, one in the morning, and the other in the evening. The season is usually open until February, so winter is the best chance for this. You can also head to Kufri to experience ice skiing, among other things.
Toy train ride
One of the best experiences in Shimla, the Kalka-Shimla toy train ride is something that you don't want to miss out on. It is historic, charming, and beautiful, and you will find it hard to give this a miss. The toy train ride was established by the British, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nothing is quite like it, and you will find yourself in the depth of the winter. A great experience for the entire family.
