Incredible rock gardens to visit in India
When we say rock garden, we are reminded of the famous Chandigarh Rock Garden. However, there are several other fabulous rock gardens in India which are equally beautiful and deserve mention. A rock garden is where one can find concrete structures and formations which have historical values. These could be sculptures of artists, animals, musicians or anyone.
Let’s have a look at some of the most famous rock gardens of India:
Chandigarh Rock Garden
By far, Chandigarh Rock Garden is the most popular one in India. Also famous as Nek Chand’s Rock Garden, this is the place where you’ll find sculptures and structures which are made using industrial and domestic waste. The region where the park is developed is quite rocky and that’s why the name! Sprawling over 40 acres of land, Sukhna Lake is one of the main attractions.
Darjeeling Rock Garden
Also famous as Barbotey Rock Garden, the Rock Garden is one of the prime tourist attractions of Darjeeling. The beautiful garden is on the way to Ghum and is surrounded by green tea gardens. There’s a stunning rocky waterfall and a lake inside the park and tourists can enjoy stunning views of the region from here.
Venkateshwara Rock Gardens, Tirupati
Popular as Silathoranam, this garden is carved out of one rock which is in the shape of a natural arch. The formation dates back from the Pre-Cambrian period and is one of a kind in Asia.
Oravakallu Rock Garden, Andhra Pradesh
The place is also known as Orvakal Rock Garden. This 1000-acre sculpture garden near Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh is home to ancient caves and igneous rock formations and is a delight for every history lover. People can also enjoy boating in the nearby lake.
Karnataka Rock Garden
A prime picnic spot, Utsav Rock Garden near Hubli in Karnataka is a cultural hub. This place is so much more than a garden as it brings together art, culture and nature. There are myriad sculptures here in the art village, where one can also meet traditional craftsmen and artisans.
Ranchi Rock Garden
Another beautiful rock garden is established in Ranchi which attracts tourists in large numbers. Carved out of the rocks of Gonda Hill, the garden is simply stunning with its beautiful structures and green space.
