Vembanad Lake
Vembanad is the largest lake and the most popular lake in Kerala located 15 km from Kottayam. The lake is joined by several rivers due to which it also has a wide-ranging wetland system. This is the best place to enjoy a houseboat cruise, fishing and birdwatching.
Vellayani Lake
Another very beautiful lake to visit in Kerala is Vellayani Lake. This freshwater lake has such clean water that you can see through it! It looks simply magical on a moonlit night. For those looking for some peace and solitude, this lake is the best place to be.
Pookode Lake
It is considered one of the most pretty lakes in Kerala. The scenic location of the lake amid hills and valleys of Wayanad, makes it more desirable. People often visit the lake to witness memorable sunrise and sunset views.
Periyar Lake
This tranquil lake was created in 1895 after the construction of the dam across the River Mullaperiyar. The lake is noted for its unique aquatic ecosystem and several little islets. One can also see tree trunks half submerged in the water.
Ashtamudi Lake
The lake is popularly known as the ‘gateway to the backwaters of Kerala’. It is also the second largest lake in Kerala and is spread over an area of 1700 sq km. The scenic lake is home to more than 100 species of fishes and is surrounded with swaying coconut groves and palm trees.
