Trains in Northeast India to get ‘glass-top’ coaches to boost tourism

Trains in the Northeast India will soon get vistadome coaches to ensure that passengers are able to enjoy the scenic beauty of this region. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has given a go-ahead to this plan of introducing vistadome coaches in trains that are running on specific routes, particularly the routes that boast of scenic beauty, of the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway.
As per the reports, the objective of this plan is to boost tourism in the Northeast. NFR Public Relations Officer Pranav Jyoti Sharma, referring to this development, said that they have identified these areas because these stretches have a lot of greenery. He also informed that the ticket pricing will be a little different and size of this coaches will be like those regular coaches.

Vistadome coaches are glass-top coaches, enhanced with wooden indoors, and are able to accommodate around 35-40 passengers. The highlight of these coaches being their glass roof that allows travellers to witness nature in its full glory. It is expected that this move will attract both domestic as well as international tourists.
NF Railways has already accomplished this task of introducing a vistadome coach in the UNESCO World Heritage Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which is vastly popular among the tourists. Some of the routes that have been selected for this project are Lumding to Badarpur, Kumarghat to Agartala, and certain sections of upper Assam.
Apart from Northeast India, other stretches that boast of vistadome coaches are the Kalka-Shimla route, Mumbai to Goa, and Visakhapatnam to Araku route.
