Did you know that India has 8 stunning Blue Flag beaches!
Do you know what a Blue Flag certified beach is? It is the most recognised and prestigious award for beaches, marinas and sustainable boating tourism operators. And India’s got eight of them! It is awarded by Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), a Denmark-based non-profit organisation. Basically, it is an eco-label given to the cleanest beaches in the world.
Here's some inspiration for your bucket list with these eight blue flag certified beaches in India.
Golden Beach, Puri, Odisha
Puri’s Golden Beach is also Asia’s first ever blue flag certified beach, and the Golden Beach is exemplary. From being plastic-free to an excellent waste management system to solar-powered facilities, this Puri beach has got them all. So far, it has maintained its standards beautifully.
Rushikonda Beach, Andhra Pradesh
Rushikonda Beach is Visakhapatnam’s pride and joy. Vast area of clean golden sand, clear blue waters and nature all around, Rushikonda is every beach and nature lover’s ideal getaway. Clearly one of the cleanest beaches not only in India but also in the world, Rushikonda wins this spot for its facilities. From good and clean bathing facilities to beach safety, Rushikonda Beach has visitor’s welfare in mind. It is also one of the few beaches in India, where you can actually go for a swim.
Kasarkod Beach, Karnataka
Kasarkod Beach is a perfect example when it comes to waste management. What is most impressive here is that Kasarkod Beach has greywater treatment plants, solid waste management plants, clean drinking water facilities, clean washrooms and changing rooms among others. A visitor will not have a single uncomfortable time out here at Kasarkod Beach. It is located in Honavar in Uttara Kannada district.
Shivrajpur Beach, Dwarka, Gujarat
Shivrajpur Beach is located in Dwarka, and besides being a popular beach it is quite clean; clean enough to get the Blue Flag badge. The waters here are not turbulent and hence, perfect for a swim. Yes, swimming is allowed here, as long as you stick to the demarcated area for swimming.
Kappad Beach, Kerala
Kappad Beach is located in Kozhikode district. One of the best in the state, spending time at the Kappad Beach means that you will get to enjoy both pristine beach as well as tranquil and scenic backwaters. Kappad beach has been following the eco-friendly way for a long time now with the help of the management, locals and visitors.
Radhanagar Beach, Andaman & Nicobar Islands
Did you know that back in 2004, Radhanagar Beach was awarded the 7th best beach in the world? The Radhanagar experience will never disappoint you. Here, you can even find yourself a beachside accommodation with all eco-friendly facilities. The best way to experience Radhanagar is to be respectful of beach rules and regulations.
Ghoghla Beach, Diu
If you love watersports but dislike crowded beaches, Ghoghla Beach in Diu is perfect for you. It’s an offbeat location because of which the beach out here is still pristine; you can expect to have some quality quiet and peaceful time alone or with your loved one.
Padubidri Beach, Karnataka
Located in Udupi district, Padubidri is one of the most beautiful beaches in India. Proper footpath along the beach area makes the beach experience all the more comfortable. There are rest stops everywhere, palm plantations, and it looks a lot like a well-manicured garden! Not to forget the litter-free beach and crystal clear waters.
