Go on a waterfall tour
Located on the Western Ghats, Munnar gets its fair share of waterfalls. Some of the most popular waterfalls to explore in Munnar are Lakkam Waterfalls, Attukal Waterfalls, Thoovanam Falls and Valara Waterfalls. These are favourite among the tourists and locals alike.
Explore the tea museum
When in Munnar, you must experience the tea plantations and see the journey of the tea leaves from these lush plantations to your favourite cup of chai. Also important is the history of tea and tea-making. For this, you need to visit the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea. Officially it is called Tata Tea Museum, but it is also known as Kannan Devan Hills Plantation Tea Museum.
Day trip to the Top Station
Want to see Munnar in the best way possible… Find your way to the Top Station, located approximately 32 km from Munnar town. You can get an undisturbed bird’s eye view of Munnar and the panoramic view of the Western Ghats. You do not want to miss this experience.
Explore Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
Get up close and personal with nature at Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. It is located in the Western Ghats and has very healthy flora and fauna. It’s best to explore with a guide, as they can explain the various plant species in the area. Most of these plant species are medicinal. You can go for light trekking as well.
Go mountain-biking
Love adventure? If yes, then you should definitely go mountain-biking in Munnar. Munnar has plenty of rugged mountain terrain where you can go exploring. Most mountain bikers love to go to areas like Suryanelli, Vandanmedu, Anamudi Shola, Kundala, and Marayoor.
Day trip to Marayoor
Marayoor is located around 40 kilometres from Munnar and is widely popular for its scenic beauty. The sandalwood forest, especially, will be something unique to see on your Munnar trip. Marayoor stays shrouded in a thin blanket of cloud and this is one of the attractions here. Marayoor is also one of the most visited places in Kerala and any Munnar trip is incomplete without a visit to Marayoor.
Do the Kurinji trail at Eravikulam National Park
Eravikulam National park is located in the Kannan Devan hills in Munnar. The national park is also home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. If you visit it now, you will be able to see the blooming of Kurinji flowers. Did you know that these flowers bloom after every 12 years? And we have good reasons to believe that they are in bloom this year.
Go trekking
Munnar is blessed with beautiful hills and forest. Go for trekking in and around Munnar to experience the best of the Western Ghats. The hill station has plenty of trekking trails that will take you to some of the most lush landscapes. You can explore the walking trail at Mathikettan Shola National Park. Get up close and personal with the beautiful shola forest.You can also hike up the Anamundi Peak for an unforgettable view of Munnar and surrounding areas.
Explore the tea plantations
If you are in Munnar, it is probable that the tea plantations inspired your visit. It is only fair to explore the tea plantations when in Munnar. Spread over several hundred acres of land, these tea plantations are beyond beautiful. Visit the Tata Tea Company-owned Sevenmallay Tea Estate, established in 1900. Also, approximately 35 km from Munnar is the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, aptly famous for its orthodox tea.
Day trip to Wild Elephant Village at Anakulam
Anakulam, approximately 42 km from Munnar, is where you can witness herds of wild elephants gather at their natural watering hole, that is, at the confluence of two tributaries of Periyar river. Anakulam village is also known as the Wild Elephant Village for this reason.You can watch the elephants from a safe distance of 50 metres. Any attempt to get closer to the wild animals is strictly prohibited.
