Hiking is one of the must-do things when in the mountains and Uttarakhand is one such Indian state which is known for its beautiful countryside trails (footpaths). This outdoor activity is perfect for adventure seekers as well as nature lovers and Uttrakhand offers myriad opportunities to enjoy this sport.
Here are some interesting places where travellers can enjoy hiking and explore the natural surroundings.
Banasur Ka Kila, Champawat
This splendid medieval-era fort is set in Champawat district of Uttarakhand and is famous among adventure seekers and hikers. The marvellous fort was constructed in the memory of Banasur, the mythological son of king Bali who possessed thousand arms. He was killed by Lord Krishna. The hike is quite interesting and absolutely beautiful.
George Everest House, Mussoorie
Set around 6 km from Gandhi Chowk in Mussoorie, George Everest House is one of the major tourist attractions in the hill station. The place secluded, peaceful and beautiful. It’s also a hit among hikers who hike all the way up to the house of Sir George Everst to enjoy spectacular views of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks and pretty views of the Doon Valley.
Binsar
One of the most scenic places in Kumaon region is the sleepy town of Binsar. Set at an elevation of 2420 m, Binsar offers great opportunities to ardent hikers. From here, one can enjoy commanding views of the Himalayan peaks like Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Panchachuli and Kedarnath.
Chopta
Also known as Switzerland of Uttarakhand, the picturesque village of Chopta is still untouched. The place offers some amazing morning views and looks otherworldly when the golden rays of sun kisses the Himalayas. There are several hiking trails here that go through jungles and offer some mesmerising natural views.
