Jaisalmer, the Golden City of Rajasthan, looks like a fairytale destination! This 12th century city is surrounded by the Thar Desert which ignites an untouched imagination. The best way to explore the city’s history is its museums. The museums in Jaisalmer offer an insight into the city’s rich past and culture.

Baa Ri Haveli Museum
This is another museum marvel in Jaisalmer belonging from the 15th century. This more than 450 year old mansion has now been converted into a museum. But the premises originally belonged to advisors of the king who were Hindu priests. The museum is a treasure trove of ancient artifacts.
Jaisalmer Government Museum
This museum was set up by the Department of Archaeology and Museums in 1984. The place is amazing and is home to ancient marine and wood fossils. There are also more than 70 rare sculptures from the 12th-century.
Thar Heritage Museum
The museum was founded in 2006 by Laxmi Narayan Khatri, a renowned historian and author. One can find his personal collection of objects inside the haveli, including ancient marine fossils, manuscripts, coins, weapons, paintings, utensils, instruments, and costumes etc.
Patwa Haveli Museum
It is one of the most grand haveli or mansions in Jaisalmer. A part of the haveli has been converted into a private museum showcasing the golden lifestyle of the Patwa family. The mansion was built in the 19th century and it took nearly 50 years to complete.
Jaisalmer Fort Palace Museum
Jaisalmer Fort, also known as the Sonar Kila is home to a beautiful museum exhibiting the golden heritage of the city. Here visitors are allowed to be inside the entertainment rooms and the rooms of the king and queen, which are lavish beyond words. Some of the prime attractions in the museum are the silver throne of the king, 15th-century sculptures, paintings and stamps, among others.
