Beautiful churches to visit in Shillong for a peaceful experience
Shillong, the stunning hill station in northeast India and the capital city of Meghalaya, has been attracting tourists from all over owing to its natural beauty, beautiful waterfalls and manicured gardens. But do you know the city is also home to some gorgeous churches where one can find peace and solace.
Let’s take a virtual tour of some of the must-visit churches in Shillong.
Cathedral Of Mary Help Of Christians
Situated in Laitumkhrah region of Shillong, this beautiful church is noted for its Gothic architecture. In 1936, the church was burned in an accidental fire and after that it was rebuilt over the remains of the first cathedral. The church also features an underground grotto church. From here, one can enjoy splendid views of the Himalayas and the Brahmaputra River.
All Saints Church
Built in 1897, this is among the oldest churches in Shillong. The church was constructed during British rule but was demolished in an earthquake. The structure was rebuilt in 1902. Situated near Bari Point in Shillong, the church has a beautiful colonial architecture.
Shillong Baptist Church
This is one of the most gorgeous architectures in the whole city. The church, set on Bampfylde Road, is known for its religious services and cultural contribution. One can also get to know the native people of the region by visiting the church on Sunday.
Jaiaw Presbyterian Church
One of the largest churches in the region, this church is beautiful beyond words and features interesting interiors. The services here are offered in the local language and Sundays are considered the best day to visit the church. The place has a very peaceful ambience.
Independent Church of India
The church in Senvon was established in 1910 and works closely and strategically with the churches in the neighboring states. This church was built in the region by the famous Watkin R. Roberts, the Welsh Presbyterian Missionary.
